Junior public speakers impress the judges

“Judge kindly – that is at the heart of everything.”

“…if you wait for lessons you will wait a life-time...If we wait to be taught, we shall never learn.”

“…it reminds me of what I used to be told as a child - 'It takes twelve falls to make a horsewoman' - so I should not like you to ride without a fall. One learns thus.”

“Remember that the source of happiness is within ourselves. Nothing outside can give it, even if you make your circumstances ideal. Nothing can take it away.”

These four quotes from Mother Janet Erskine Stuart were the inspiration for some excellent speeches from students in Year 8, 9 and 10 participating in the recent Junior Public Speaking competition on Monday 8 September.

Four students progressed to the final with the highest heat scores from Taylor Brent (Year 10), Sarah Cook (Year 10), Josephine Copley (Year 10) and Georgia Perissinotto (Year 8).

The judges awarded the trophy to Josephine Copley, who spoke to the topic “Judge kindly…” Josephine gave a thought-provoking speech about the need for us to be kind to ourselves as well as others.

Congratulations to all the students who participated.
