Kate and Jamila take home national award for Vocational Training Excellence

Stuartholme School’s Kate Bailey and Jamilia Bonvegna were among those recognised for the award.

The Award recognises students who have demonstrated outstanding skills while completing vocational training in senior secondary years.

Kate completed a Certificate III in Community Services at the Brisbane North Institute of TAFE while Jamila successfully completed a school-based traineeship at the Emporium Hotel with a Certificate III in Hospitality.

“It was an amazing opportunity to complete my training at the Emporium,” Jamilia said.

“Everyone was very encouraging and supportive; I learned a lot.”

The two 2012 graduates also both completed Certificate III’s in Children’s Services at Stuartholme.

Stuartholme offered us many opportunities and our teachers supported us to make the most of them,” Kate said.

The 2012 graduates will both receive a $2,000 cash prize from the award.

The Australian Vocational Student Prize promotes the value of gaining vocational skills while at school.

It acknowledges that vocational education prepares students for further training and employment.

Stuartholme School supports students who wish to pursue VET pathways.

Stuartholme’s Vocational Education and Training Facilitator, Laurence Somerset said she was very proud of the girls and wished them all the best with their futures outside of high school.

“Stuartholme fosters excellence in every aspect of its curriculum, in its OP and Vocational Education Programme, as well as in its extra curricula activities,” she said.

“Kate and Jamila are examples of what Stuartholme sets out to achieve; for each student to be the best she can be.
