“I feel like one of the luckiest girls in the world,” she said.
The high school student from Stone Ridge School of the Sacred Heart in Washington DC has recently come to Brisbane to spend her holiday break seeing all that our city has to offer.
“It’s been amazing to spend time here, especially at South Bank and Mt Cootha,” she said.
“We also went to the zoo and saw some Australian wildlife; it was great!”
Julia is staying with a host family from Stuartholme School in Toowong where she has taken part in regular school activities and events to experience all an exchange has to offer.
“It’s been really fun to go to school with my host sister and see what her days are like in Australia,” she said.
“I will definitely be back, hopefully to live here one day.”
Julia’s host sister, Rosie Lowe said it’s been a fantastic opportunity and would recommend anyone thinking of going on exchange to do so.
“There are so many valuable life lessons to be learnt from other cultures and we should embrace the opportunity to travel,” she said.
“Stuartholme is very encouraging of exchanges and facilitates many international trips each year.”
Exchange Coordinator at Stuartholme Kerry Moran said she is very pleased with the interest the students are showing in the exchange programs.
“Exchanges are invaluable experiences which not only develop a student’s character but also create many lifelong friends.”
“Being effective intercultural communicators in today’s world is a skill every student needs.”
Julia was one of 18 students to come to Stuartholme this semester, and will return to the United States later this week.
