We hope it touches you, as it did us. All the best to Stephanie, Rhys and Megan in their training and run!
Life without Limbs by Stephanie Robotham
Matthew suffered a massive set back in his life 12 months ago after getting a sore throat which turned into Streptococcal toxic shock (Strep A) which finally resulted in him having all 4 limbs amputated to save his life. One year on, he is now living back at home adjusting to his new ‘normal’ life and is the most inspiring, positive and motivated person I know – and on top of that a loving husband and devoted father of 4 young children. He inspires us all every day.
I urge you to read his story if you did not catch it in The Courier Mail.
Last week I was challenged to run the Bridge to Brisbane 10k fun run with my son Rhys and daughter Megan (and hopefully husband Martyn). As you may well know I hate running and this will be a very big challenge for me, after one week of training I am already aching all over and have found muscles I never knew I had – but on reflection this is nothing compared to what Matt has had to endure over the past 12 months and continue to endure most of his life.
Unfortunately for Matt, due to the nature of his illness, he does not fall within any of the current disability funding schemes as he did not receive his amputations as a result of an accident or work related incident - so funding his wheelchair, lift and most importantly his prosthetic limbs has come down to relying on the generosity of family, friends and the community.
I hope you will all support me in this endeavour in whatever way you can. Also, If you would like to join our team please let me know – the more people we can get to run the more sponsorship money we can potentially earn for Matt – as he says in his article – ones set of prosthetics cost $500,000!
