On Friday 20 March, four Stuartholme students were invited to attend the National Day Against Bullying and Violence workshop hosted by Facebook.
The aim of the day was to give the students some strategies on dealing with Bullying and Violence.
Project Rockit, a youth driven movement against (cyber)bullying, had staff who talked about bullying both online and in person. They acted out certain situations and then asked the audience how the victim would feel if the audience reacted a certain way.
“They then asked the audience for ways they could solve the situation if it happens in real life,” said Jordi Stephenson, Year 10.
“Once they heard our suggestions, they gave us solutions such as ‘When in doubt, freak them out’ and ‘Turning the insults into a compliment’.”
Other special guests were Sheri from My Kitchen Rules, Mia from Facebook, Kate Jones, Minister for Education, who each talked about their experiences.
After the workshop students played ping pong and get professional photos with the guest speakers.
“Finally the day ended with us receiving a Facebook water bottle, Instagram pen, information sheets and little Facebook badges.
“Overall the day was fun and we all learnt a lot that I know we will take back with us into everyday life.
“We will also share the strategies with our peers at school,” Jordi said.
