Project compassion

Who says one person can’t change the world. In 1897 Lorenz Werthmann founded the first Caritas.
The name, Caritas, comes from a Latin word meaning love and compassion. From these humble beginnings, Caritas is now one of the largest aid agencies in the world.
Stuartholme Principal, Kristen Sharpe said she is proud to announce Project Compassion - Caritas Australia’s annual fundraising and awareness-raising appeal, as their fundraising focus for 2016.
Project Compassion runs through the six weeks of Lent each year and asks people to consider how they can give of themselves to help others in the lead up to Easter.
Stuartholme’s Leader of Mission, Sarah Daff said money will help end poverty, promote justice and uphold dignity for people all over the world.
“The money raised will go to providing long-term programs which focus on providing integrated development through water and sanitation, housing, education, health, literacy, women’s empowerment, income generation and sustainable agriculture.
“Caritas works with communities regardless of their religion, race, gender or ethnicity.
“The initiative officially started today and I am already overwhelmed with the positive response from the students.
“We have set up a Stuartholme Group on Caritas’ fundraising website, so we can track how much our community has raised,” Sarah said.
