Keeping gifted students challenged and inspired can be difficult.
St Bernard’s Primary School Teacher, Liz Gaggin recognised one of her students, Bianca Novelli was capable of learning at around two years above her grade.
“I have been working with Bianca and providing ways to keep her engaged and challenged in the classroom, so I knew STEAM Residential would be an ideal opportunity for her,”
The STEAM (Science, Technology, Engineering, Art and Mathematics) Residential Programme is run each year by Clearing Skies and Stuartholme School and offers an intensive programme of learning in the STEAM areas. Unlike other STEM Programmes, this unique programme incorporates Art.
“What makes this Programme special is that it provides an opportunity for gifted and talented students to learn alongside those of similar abilities and interests,” Director of Clearing Skies and STEAM Residential Manager, Michele Juratowitch said.
Bianca was excited to be accepted into the Programme.
“My favourite subject is Maths and that’s the area I focused on during the Programme. I loved being challenged and learning alongside girls who also have an interest in it.
“We built on concepts I’d learnt at school as well as new areas of Maths I hadn’t studied yet, it was great!” she said.
The programme highlighted Bianca’s love of Maths and began her thinking about what she’d like to study in the future.
“There are so many opportunities when you study Maths, but at this stage I’m particularly interested in Forensic Science.”
The Programme costs $350 per student which includes tuition, materials required for the workshops, accommodation in Stuartholme School’s Boarding House and all meals.
“I would recommend the Programme to any girl who is looking for a challenge, you won’t regret it,” Bianca said.
Stuartholme School recognises the importance of encouraging gifted and talented students to understand and utilise their unique abilities.
